Frequently Asked Questions

Here you’ll find quick answers to common questions about our sterilization cabinets—cost, compatibility, use cases, and more.

How much do SteriCUBEs cost?

A lot less than you think! After all, most CUBEs are consigned. Just contact us.

What sterilizers are compatible with SteriCUBEs?

SteriCUBEs are compatible with most large sterilizers (Steris, Getinge, Belimed, etc.)

What can SteriCUBEs be used to sterilize?

All the reusable instruments for a surgery!

Most commonly used for joint replacement and spine. A dream-come-true for handling loaner trays.

How many trays can a SteriCUBE hold?

We have two options to choose from.  Both models feature adjustable shelving.

The MTS-225 has a 225lb weight limit; typically, with 3 adjustable shelves and 9 heavy trays

The MTS-300 as a 300lb weight limit; typically, with 4 adjustable shelves and 12 heavy trays

What is the sterilizer cycle?

SteriCUBEs are validated for a 4-minute exposure and 5-minute dry time, however the IFU of whatever is being sterilized must be followed.

What if bioburden is found in a tray when the SteriCUBE is opened?

Follow your facility process for when bioburden is found in a surgical tray.

How long will the instruments remain sterile in the unopened SteriCUBE?

SteriCUBEs maintain sterility for up to 30 days.

How are the SteriCUBEs cleaned?

SteriCUBEs are compatible with cart washers.. Alternatively, SteriCUBEs may be wiped down with non-chlorine cleaners (to avoid metal corrosion) such as CaviWipes in pink containers or Sani-Cloth® AF3 with grey lids.

Can the SteriCUBE be used for offsite sterilization?

Yes! The SteriCUBE system can be used for offsite sterilization. SteriCUBEs can be transported directly from an offsite sterilization facility with fully sterilized, surgery-ready instrumentation.  This reduces on-site workload and supports timely OR set-up.

How does the SteriCUBE support sustainability efforts?

SteriCUBEs are a sustainable, green alternative to “blue wrap” that can reduce the resultant space and bio-hazard waste-removal burden on your facility.  Studies have demonstrated blue wrap can account for 19% of the total waste generated in the OR and is often thrown out with regulated medical waste, which is 6 to 10 times more expensive to dispose of than white bag waste.1

What duplicative workflow steps can SteriCUBE eliminate?

The SteriCUBE System eliminates multiple steps both in the central sterile processing and OR workflows, enabling staff from both departments to dedicate time to other tasks. This can be particularly helpful managing short staffing situations and/or unexpected spikes in surgeries.2

Visual graphic made from this slide:

What will be different in the OR?

All deficiencies associated with blue wrap are now eliminated. Cases are more likely to start on time without delays. The OR nurse can focus on the needs of the patient and surgeon, instead of inspecting blue wrap for holes. Staff will no longer be scrambling to find a replacement for a trays contaminated by a blue wrap hole. One person can unload the SteriCUBE and place all trays needed for the case on the table within ~one minute!3 Your surgeon will smile. it will be a great day in the OR.

What will be different in SPD?

With no more need to laboriously wrap each surgical tray, your SPD will find that they save approximately 27 minutes when preparing trays for surgery.3 All instruments and implants needed for the surgery will all be organized and rolled directly to the OR or stored up to 30 days without contamination. Loaner trays that come in with jagged corners and at odd times will no longer be a source of frustration. Your surgical techs will be less stressed as some of the weight of the world lifts off their shoulders.

What will be different in Administration?

Forget, Happy Wife Happy Life – and substitute that with Happy Doc Thinks You Rock.  Show your surgeon that you are invested in him/her by empowering efficiency in the SPD and OR. After all, your surgeon didn’t go to medical school to spend long hours in the lounge waiting out delays

Beyond a happy surgeon and a less-stressed SPD, SteriCUBE’s efficiency delivers directly to your bottom line. The elimination of duplicative workflow steps, ability to add additional cases in each day’s surgery schedule, and the reduction of costs/resources associated with biohazardous waste may translate into millions of dollars in cost savings when holistically analyzed.2 Ask us for an analysis!
